Tips for Planning Your Assateague Island Beach Wedding

Many couples choose to have their Beach Wedding on Assateague Island. Some couples have wonderful memories of vacationing here. Therefore they want to share their special day in the same place. Some of our couples even became engaged on Assateague Island so they wanted to have the wedding ceremony in the same beach location.

Assateague Island is a 37-mile long island along the coasts of Maryland and Virginia. Most of the Maryland district is managed by the National Park Service at Assateague Island National Seashore. The State of Maryland manages two miles of the Maryland district as Assateague State Park. The Virginia district is managed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service as Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. The National Park Service operates the Toms Cove Visitor Center and a recreational beach within the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge.

Sunny Beach Weddings provides Wedding Services in the Maryland National Park of Assateague Island

Location: Assateague Island National Seashore Ranger Station

Please note that a special arrangement fee of 700 dollars will apply to weddings in the National Park.  It is also necessary to acquire a special permit directly from the National Park to have a wedding ceremony there.  

Weddings at this location should be planned between April and November. April and May offer private beaches and cooler temperatures.  The Summer Months of June, July, and August are great because it will be easier for your guests to plan a vacation at the same time as your beach wedding.

We suggest having a summer wedding in the cooler morning or evening hours.  The beaches will have less crowding.  Also, the evening hours provide the ideal lighting for your photographs and video. Make sure guests are well equipped with water and other hydrating liquids.  It is also a good idea to have plenty of insect repellant especially if the winds are light and variable.  Sunny Beach Weddings offers packages that include both your wedding photography and wedding videography.  The fall months of September, October, and early November once again offer cooler temperatures and private beaches for your wedding.  Fall skies provide breathing taking colors for your beach wedding portraits. GET YOUR MARRIAGE LICENSE

If you’re planning to get married at Assateague Island, Maryland, you’ll have to obtain a marriage license from the CIRCUIT COURT CLERK’S OFFICE IN WORCESTER COUNTY, MARYLAND. You can also print the non-resident marriage license affidavit form for the State of Maryland. Although you must obtain your own marriage license, after your wedding, our officiant will file the license with the county on your behalf.

The license is issued at the same time the application is taken. The license will reflect an effective date and time at 6:00 a.m. on the second day after issue, and will be valid for 6 months. This means that for a Saturday wedding, you must apply for a license no later than the close of business on Thursday.

The Circuit Court Clerk’s Office will give you three copies of the marriage license, which the official performing the ceremony will complete. Instructions for completion and distribution are on the copies of the license. If you would like a civil ceremony, please note that there are no justices of the peace in Maryland.
